This course provides a practical introduction to the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), the routing protocol that enables communication between networks across the Internet. Starting with the fundamental concepts of IP prefixes and Autonomous Systems, learners will explore how BGP exchanges routing information, how routers establish neighbor relationships, and how routes are propagated between networks.
This IX Academy course is aimed at network engineers familiar with routing who want to learn about the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).
A certain level of knowledge in Networking is highly recommended before enrolling that course. You can achieve that knowledge by joining Networking basics I and Networking basics II courses.

Wolfgang Tremmel, Head of DE-CIX Academy, has been with DE-CIX since 2006 and has worked with DE-CIX since 1995. In the DE-CIX Academy, he focuses on sharing knowledge on peering, network interconnection, and related topics. In this interview, he gives an insight into the work that goes into developing the Academy’s workshops and webinars, and takes us back to the “birth” of DE-CIX 25 years ago and why the decision was made to found the Internet Exchange in Frankfurt.

Miquel Oliver is Full Professor at the Department of Engineering of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He received his Ph.D. from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 1999, a Degree in Business Administration and GloColl Executive Education (Harvard). Before joining UPF, he was Associate. He is leading the multidisciplinary Networking and Strategies Research Group (NeTS) since its foundation.

The Internet is becoming a bigger target than ever for attacks. Attacks will continue to strike, and a single attack can dramatically slow down the Internet. Learn more about how Blackholing at Internet Exchanges can stop the malicious traffic.
This module serves as an introduction to data centers: what they are, how they power our digital world, key terms and definitions, the people and processes behind them, and more. It provides the essential foundation needed to build your understanding as you explore deeper into the industry.
